How to Create OS X El Capitan Bootable USB Flash Drive

  • Download OS X El Capitan from Mac App Store here.
  • Insert at least 8GB USB Flash Drive.
  • Rename via Finder USB Flash Drive volume to: elcapitan
  • Run Terminal and insert command below (you’ll be prompted for your admin account password):
sudo /Applications/Install OS X El Capitan.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/elcapitan --applicationpath /Applications/Install OS X El Capitan.app --nointeraction
  • Done!

    1. USB drive named “Untitled”

    2. Run Terminal: sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia –volume /Volumes/Untitled –applicationpath /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sierra.app –nointeraction

    3. Enjoy!
